    That is one of my pet loads and bullets for .45 ACP. It's been around for over 50 years....likely over 70 too. H&G #68 200 Grain LSWC sized 0.452" Mixed cases trimmed 0.888" COL 1.250" - 1.260" Taper Crimp 0.469" Alliant Bullseye 4.8 - 5.0 grains Large pistol primer seated 0.002" below flush Works in nearly EVERY .45 ACP pistol ever made....including ALL 1911s. 1" or less at 25 yards capable as long as the shooter and pistol are up to it. Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat pet load for many decades as well.. I learned about it when I was much younger just starting out reloading in 1989 from some old guys who were in their late 60s, 70s and 80s THEN. It's been around the block a bit and is well vetted and proven. They were Bullseye pistol competition shooters and champions. I had/have Springfield Armory and Colt 1911s I used this load in way before I even owned any Wilson CQBs and Les Baer Thunder Ranch Specials.

    Quick question FC, do you set your 45 acp brass in lots according to case length or if its under .898 it good to go?

    • @JohnDoeEagle1
      @JohnDoeEagle1 8 днів тому

      0.888 - 0.898 is the general target area. For ringing steel and high speed running and gunning it's fine left that way. If you are shooting for accuracy and single ragged holes that ring out the pistol and test the shooter you will have to trim them all to a uniform length. Best to go down to 0.888" so you never have to do it again. The case will wear out before it needs trimmed again. .45 ACP cases last a very long time and go 15 - 20+ reloads usually before they need tossed.

    Well, obviously the SAME BULLET loaded to the SAME OALs should not change anything if the factory rounds chamber in the specific firearm: in revolvers (with sufficient cylinder length to accomodate a longer OAL (which is the case in MOST revolvers) using the standard length brass does not pose any problem. In lever action rifles the more telling question is whether loading the FTX bullets at the can (which increases the OAL by the Hornady "trim adjustment") now creates problems in the functioning of the rifle. Since there are also higher pressure 45 Colt loads ( i.e., the "Ruger Only" data for significantly higher pressure in HANDGUNS), that 10gr of Unique is, as stated in the video, basically a START load for MODERN rifles to begin with... The real question is "will the FTX bullet loaded in standard length brass function in MY rifle"?

    I believe I was given some of those a decade or more and they fed just fine and very accurate. I've been casting Lee's TL ( tumble lube ) 225-230 something grain (depending on lead mix used )round nose sized to .452 usually but have had real success at sizing to .451 with some loads depending on powder and charge weight and believe it or not on lead mix. I never drop below 14.5 bhn and usually up around 16.5 . They do cut a fair hole but not like the semi wad-cutters do.
